During its more than half a century
of existence, the College has achieved the singular distinction of having produced
a remarkable number of successful graduates who have enjoyed the respect of
the nation. Among them are included a President of the Philippines, a justice
of the Supreme Court, several members of the legislature and of the Cabinet,
some ambassadors, no less than twenty heads of banks and financial corporations,
several heads of educational institutions, acknowledged leaders in the various
fields of industry, commerce, agriculture and trade, and armed forces officers
of general rank. It can rightfully claim that it has contributed its share in
the molding of character and training of the successful graduates.
The careful combination of proven competence in instruction plus valuable experience
in the practice of the profession has been the guide of the College in the selection
of faculty members. This policy, combined with carefully planned programs in
the various disciplines and adequate facilities, has formed the basis for the
impressive educational record of the College.
The College is a founding member of the Philippine Association of Colleges and
Universities (PACU) in 1932, of the Philippine Association of Collegiate Schools
of Business (PACSB) in 1962, of the Private Education Retirement Annuity Association
(PERAA) in 1974, and Philippine Association of Personnel Management in Private
Schools (PAPMIPS) in 1997.

Vision. Mission and Objectives
Jose Rizal University aims
to develop its students to become useful and responsible citizens through the
effective transfer of relevant knowledge and desirable values:
by providing balanced instruction in general education and technical knowledge,
by stressing the principles of representative government in a free society,
by inculcating respect for the truth,
by teaching the art of the utilization of knowledge, and
by encouraging active participation in the process of national development

History
Jose Rizal University was
originally established by Vicente Fabella as Far Eastern College in 1919, its
name being to Jose Rizal College in 1922. First located at Arlegui Street, the
College transferred to R. Hidalgo Street soon afterwards, moving to its present
location in Mandaluyong in 1949. It remained closed throughout the Japanese
Occupation, as its head had joined the guerilla movement. Vincent Fabella wa
the first Filipino to obtain a Certificate in Public Accountancy from the United
States.
Originally offering commerce and high school degree, the College expanded its
offerings to include an elementary school, education and liberal arts at the
undergraduate level, and law, business administration, public administration,
and education at the graduate level. It has its own research publication, the
Journal of Business, Education and Law. The College is especially proud of Ramon
Magsaysay who graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1933 and who subsequently
became the 7th President of the Philippines.
The College obtained Level III accreditation from the PACU-COA in November 1999,
and was granted university status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)
on October 2, 2000.
